You're missing the point here. He wants Live to be something different than Cubase, Logic,..

Its not a stupid request, just a very poorly formulated one.
In the olden days, Live was a so-called Live sequencing instrument. (it said so on the box).
These days its all about trumpets and pianos. The marketing focus has shifted to attract users from other Audio Sequencing software. Which makes it unclear wether Ableton will focus on features that can be abused in real-time or if they will focus on offline features that are attractive to Cubase/Logic/etc users.
I've had this conversation a hundred times and learned that the word "DAW' means different things to different people. For a long time, I saw a DAW as a linear sequencer. These days I view it as an all encompassing idea of musical configurations. A set of applications could still qualify as one DAW.
Before Digital, did people call their setups AAW?
