I'm thinking of switching from an HP Laptop to a Macbook. I still travel a lot both for work and for play, and would like to do some work with Live while on the move.

In order to get the best out of Live would a MacBook Pro offer any significant gain over a MacBook Air 13 (new model).

Recording Audio in Live

I seem to have a problem recording audio in Live both on my studio machine and on my portable set up.

Main machine -
Shure SM58 -> Firebox -> Live

Portable
Shure SM58 -> Inspire -> Live

The signal is "there" but I always seem to have to boost it by 10 db to get a ...

Yes I have a Novation Controller - SL49 Compact.

The problem doesn't occur in Impulse or, as far as I can tell, anywhere else. It just seems to occur when using specific samples and Session Drums.

I purchased Session Drums and installed the packs without any problems. They do seem to play OK.

However, there does seem to be a glitch when loading them up.

If I drop a sample into "C1" for example, it actually "triggers" when I hit the note "E1". Others are more random than that. Obviously ...

If you made it dock/undockable, you wouldn't have to undock it thus preserving the two views. I like that feature too.

But it would be handy to be able to float it over either view. I just find it more "real" to work with thats all.

I am going to change my main PC for music production to a Quad core.

I currently have Live 7 installed on a desktop PC and my Laptop. So I've used my two installations. All my software is legit and registered.

OK

You can do a lot in Live, and overall I don't like to export/re-import files too much.

But it seems a relatively simple way to achieve what you want.

I always keep a back up of my original file too.

Yep - sorry - that's right.

There is a simple answer to this.

Export your file to Audacity. If you don't have it then just do a web search in Google and download it - it's FREE. It's also very useful.

One you have imported your file into Audacity - see what you have - sounds obvious.
