I keep the Performance meter up all the time and it seems kinda low but I get spikes whenever I open a file in either app or launch Live, a plug-in, etc...

I usually work with the buffers between 512 or 1024 unless I'm softsynthing and then i lower it to 256 to reduce latency ...

Digital Performer 4.1 and 4.11
Live 2.5 and 3.0
Mac OS 10.2.8 & 10.3

In DP, I set the Host Buffer Size to 256, 512 & 1024 with a Multiplier of 1. All seemed to ...

Even with DP 4.11 and Live 3 in Panther I still have the same host crashing problem. Today it happened with a blank DP document and a blank Live set.

It might be a problem with the way the file header is formed (or some other voodoo) try opening the file first in a wave editing progrma like Peak or Spark (Or whatever you have used to edit your loops that you know works with Live) then Save As... from that and see if the resulting file works ...

I've been doing a bunch of work lately with Live and DP 4.1 and I've noticed a tendency for DP to freeze and unexpectedly quit sometimes when I hit the Play button or move the Playback Start Position within Live while the programs are playing. It never happens when I hit Play within DP. I'm not sure ...

I saw this thread last week and didn't say anything but I have DP 3.11 & 4 + Untity 2.1.3 and Retro 2.1.2 and all the versions of Live from 1.5 up to the latest. Under OS 9, I have been able to get DP 3.x, Live and the Bitheadz stuff working OK - but I must run the Bitheadz stuff in ReWire mode ...

Oops - I need to clarify something: VST plug-ins do not work in Live while it is in Rewire Slave mode! They would need to be applied to routed audio tracks in the host application. But everything else still works great!

It's great that Live supports SD II files but my host like to make split stereo SD II files. Live likes interleaved stereo so I still need to export soundbites - which is just as well because Live doesn't understand audio regions. Is there a faster way to work with shared audio data between my host ...

I'm sorry I don't have any helpful suggestions but I can tell you that that I got Live 2.1.1 and DP 4.01 working real well together. I did a song today with 8 tracks of audio, 8 tracks of Polar loops, files bounced and popped into Live, re-looped, VST effected and lined back into DP on an Aux track ...

Sometimes I get the dropouts right away. I only have a single processor G4/500 with 768 MB RAM...

I never solved the problem - but I think it has to do with CPU or CoreAudio overload... I don't have any reason to say that except that the problem seems to be worst when working with songs that have several tracks and lots of EFX (especially 3rd party VST plug-ins). I just deal with it for now ...

I've heard it's faster in 9 too but I don't use 9 much anymore so I haven't tried. But I have noticed that very often when I am working on projects with, say 6 or more stereo tracks and several plug-ins, although the CPU meter never gets much higher than 50%, I get periods where all sound drops ...
