Whenever I find myself with a track that just doesn't work for me I always keep it. Somewhere along the line I'll filter to heck and play it backwards. Just really destroy the sound and loop it in to a new composition.

Perhaps what you create sounds even better player backwards through a phaser ...

Completely agree, Live's sequencer is far better than Reason's.

Reason for me is just a whoile lot of fun, wiring different things up and and just tweaking until I get something cool. Then I sequence it from Live, but record it in as Audio. I keep the midi clips though once the audio is recorded ...

I have all my clips, loops, and samples on a Network Attached Storage so it runs over Ethernet. Live does take considerably longer to load a file than if it were on the local hard disk, however it doesn't interrupt the music, so I just have to be patient and load things in plenty of time.

My real point I suppose is that it was too easy to fire up a VST, load a preset and leave it at that. I want to get back the craft to creating a sound.

I think they're holding me back.

I'm going back to my roots. Just live, impulse, simpler, a hard-disk full of samples, and one VST effect - a compressor with sidechain.

While it's true FSOL do not anymore perform on stage, Amorphous Androgynous do.

Incidentally their next release is due to be an FSOL title, with their latest being an FSOL remix of The Isness called The Otherness.

I like to load up one or more impulse machines with drum hits and rolls then program basic patterns then use the random midi effect to trigger different drum sounds. Add in some delays, EQs, and of course the legendary Beat Repeat and it all sounds very intricately programmed.

I highly recommend Hot Chip, very exciting stuff.
