Re: iPhone/iPod as usb drive for audio files, on guest pc

Silly.. Thanks. Are there any optional audio players that can bypass iTunes? I have Touch DJ, but its a bit slow loading, and only acsepts mp3s. There are none that function properly. You can use a program called 'Formta Factory' to convert a number of things to mp3, FLAC, aac, etc. Just google it ...

Re: NAMM 2011 :: Ableton Live 9

Ableton will not be on the floor this year unless they are added last second. Last year they got a noise and decibel violation. This could be the cause of no Ableton this year.

Re: Just purchased Ableton. Now....

This depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I have a friend that only does linear recording in arrangement view. This can take anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours to figure out after initial setup. I use it to record, sample and perform live which can take a lifetime (mainly because once ...

shinywhitebox.com has a program called iShowU which sounds stupid but works very well for screen capturing.

Re: recommend mic & preamp please

You are right. They are industry standards at least to fall back on. I remember seeing a mic at Guitar Center last week that could be changed between 4 types of mics (including the figure 8/bi-directional) with the switch on the mic itself. It contained each of the 4 which I was impressed with. I ca...

Re: recommend mic & preamp please

My advice concerning the mic situation is going with SM58 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SM58) for performances and SM57 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sm57) for recording. Both of these are cardioid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardioid) and will only pickup what is close to them compared to other m...

Re: updating live from 8.0.1 to 8.2.1

Leave the old folder in peace. You may need to use it later if collaborating with someone that has 8.0.1. What the Live 8.2.1 installer does is install 8.2.1 aside from the previous version(s). It doesn't actually replace the previous version(s). I actually went from 8.0.1 to 8.2.1 as well and was c...

Re: iPhone/iPod as usb drive for audio files, on guest pc

You can only add to you what you want to play with your iPod using a single host computer (yours). This is a built in feature/annoyance of iTunes. There is a program called 'poddox' that gets around this but is only compatible with iPods built before the iPhone/iTouch. Any iPod/iPhone can be used as...

Re: Ableton and Recording Automation

If you want to change a parameter other than what you have already set, single click the parameter and a red line should appear in the track. Pencil in from there. Any parameters with automation you have already set will have a little red square on the control of the parameter itself, be it dial or ...

Re: problem automating device on/off

This shouldn't be happening unless something is forcing it to stay on when added which is of course irritating. This may be another setting issue. As I haven't had problems with automation and locking envelopes, I've never to find a resolution. At best it's some setting I can't think of. At worst it...

Re: recording without automation rewriting

Lock the envelopes previous automations by clicking the padlock icon above all the tracks names in arrangement view. It's just right of 'Set' with arrows on either side. You can also lock them in the options menu. Just remember to change the setting back before attempting to adjust them again. Check...

Re: Is it safe to upgrade from Suite 7 to Suite 8?

I upgraded from Suite 7 to Suite 8 and have no problems whatsoever aside from issues not addressed in various fixes. One thing that may be a hindrance is trying to open .als files in 7 that were created in 8. I have tried and it simply does not work. A way to work around this, albeit time consuming,...
