Røde mics and an H4 sounds like you got the gear right for now. So I suspect there is something else.

delay:
"Simple Delay" in a return, with an "EQ 8" and the send enabled in the return to adjust feedback.

gater:
try BigSeq by Audio damage. Or BigSeq2 for more options.

I thought a gater should be my first M4L project, but it turns out that an M4L device can't receive Midi from another track ...

I don't have Reason, and think that the omission of being able to send Midi to audio tracks through M4L is something obviously neglected for a v2 release, so I felt it's time to start begging..

I'd like to be able to create tools that use midi to manipulate another track's audio.

for example make a simple gater that can be played live. it receives Midi and does something to the audio of the track it lives in.

You can probably progress much faster than one per day, depending on your knowledge of computers, math, music etc. And of course the tutorial. With some of them it really clicks and you start experimenting for hours, others you almost skip through, then maybe return to later ...

We have been using Network MIDI over wifi with two MacBook Pros. One creates a Computer-to-computer network, the other joins, then it sometimes takes more than one try to hook them together -- afterwards it's all smooth sailing.

I could imagine that the lack of MMC support is something that a number of people might have noticed to be a bit awkward.

Are there any plans to support this in the future in Live?

I am using my 02 (that I just got yesterday) a bit differently -- I only use it for remote and track purposes. that works well.

I will look into the usage as a control surface and let you know what happens.

there is not much that is rough about this track. Sounds a bit like you are making beats late at night at low volume -- try turning it up and turn up the bass until it moves you.
