I am learning the ways of the mix and since I do not have access to a real studio and probably never will, I need to train my ears somehow. I read lots of tutorials on mixing and have studied much of the concepts behind it but all this really means nothing without actually hearing some shitty mixes ...

mic for field percussion?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good percussion mic? I find myself wanting to record lots of random percussive sounds (i.e. banging on hand railings, metal AC ducts, 50 gallon drums, etc) and I'm not sure what mic would be best. I would probably lug my macbook around with me in a backpack ...
