Well, I'm proposing a workflow improvement to make it easier to manage using a single external effect unit with multiple software tracks by freezing at the point of the external effect return. Currently, when you freeze a track, it records the audio signal all the way through all the effects and ...

in-place recording (freeze) of external audio effect return

I have some outboard effect gear that I love to use on lots of my tracks with the "external audio effect" insert. It's a dual-stereo unit so I can only use it with at most two "external audio effect" units at a time. In order to use it repeatedly across my project, I have to bounce down (freeze) the ...

OH I get it now. This is a folded group of "sends," each "send" mixing multiple independent tracks.

You need this plugin in order to create a routable destination from the source tracks into the chains of the midi instrument rack. So it looks like this:

track 1 has say, kick #1 and sends to track ...

This doesn't make sense to me - am I missing something? You can get sub mixes with return tracks, just setting the audio output of the origin tracks to "sends only," and turning the send all the way up. No VST plugin hacks and corresponding CPU overhead necessary.

On another note, I also love that ...

ah and i nearly forgot to mention the following unmapped commands as well!

- solo track
- mute track
- activate/deactivate clips
- activate/deactivate notes

zomg! ;)

each of these could be implemented to apply to current selection, or perhaps to whatever is under the cursor at the time, which ...

customizable keyboard shortcuts (and a few new ones)

love ableton live - but i used be a logic user and i must say, coming from logic, the customizability of the ableton interface is profoundly restricted. in addition, some very important actions I perform regularly are mapped to shortcuts that are almost totally unusable.

for instance, i keep my ...

I think Live has the opportunity here to get something right that no other sequencer I've used has done, which is to actually solve the problem of multiple control envelopes overlapping at the same time for the same target.

An envelope is just a curve between a minimum and maximum. I think each ...

gotcha.

so that's the behavior by design and whether it's a "good idea" is debatable. in some cases, like track volume, this seems to be really useful, but for VST parameters like cutoff, not so much.

thanks for the tip.

can clip envelopes only decrease (0%-100%) vst parameters?

I want to have a few different clips on a track with a VST instrument, and set, say, the filter cutoff to different values for each clip.

It seems for this to actually work, I have to manually set the cutoff on the VST to the maximum value, and then the clips can set it anywhere below that ...
