Question 3 & 4 resolved. Built-in Midi Keyboard has to be deactivate to toggle Automation On/Off. Fades show with automation off.

Question 3:
Automation using the "A" on the computer keyboard is not working. Going to the View Menu dropdown and selecting "Automation Mode" works. Perhaps I have somehow unmapped this key in the one day of using 10. Do I have to remap this and where exactly would I map "A" to?

Ah yes, there is a solo'd track embedded within a chain in the channel strip.. should just use the on/off button. bad habit Thx!

Question 2:
The Solo button when off is grey, switched on its completely blue. A few of the Solo buttons (when not activated) are half grey on top and half blue on the bottom diagonally?

I recall a previous upgrade, may have been Live 7 to Live 8, whereas it was a similar situation although the change in file paths, for user presets and program files, was addressed during the upgrade installation.

The Live 9 browser has a "User Library" under "Places" whereas if I create and save a device preset it is saved there. I have noticed that my created and saved device presets in Live 8 are not in the same locations as there is a "Live 8 Library" under "Places" as well.

well its an old Chicago house record that was probably made using short 8sec samplers/drum machines The part before the vocal is no doubt identical.

Yeah I tried that (adjusting track delay) but still doesnt achieve the goal of canceling out all that is similar between them except for the vocal (only on one of the tracks)
