Re: Managing Set Lists for Live Performance

Good luck 3oland and let me know if you have any questions (no matter how nooby). FWIW here's how I go about creating/using a STEM: 1. Create/master it in LPX at the tempo I want to play them live, and export as 32 bit aif or wav 2. Drag it into a track in session mode in Ableton. Double-click on th...

Re: Managing Set Lists for Live Performance

Hey 3oland, don't worry about being a noob, we all were at some point. One of the great things about Ableton is there's lots of ways of doing the same thing. So what you're looking to do, you can do in Arrangement view by using locators. These allow you to loop a section and then, when you're ready,...

Re: Managing Set Lists for Live Performance

Hi 3oland, I've done something similar to what you're looking to do, and I'm also from a GB/LPX/Mainstage background. Ableton takes a little time to get used to as it's so different (in session view) from how other DAWs have traditionally worked, but it's soooooo much better suited to playing live t...

Re: MIDI map the different output options to my controller?

I would think it's possible using ClyphX Pro but you may be able to do it without that: 1. Set up 4 audio tracks, one for each of your outputs. 2. Set the audio in on each to be from your Master channel and the outputs to what you've already got 3. Create two dummy clips on each track: set the envel...

Re: Starting all tracks from a certain bar

I'm similar Dec, I use Session view nearly all the time. Have a look at this part of the manual, scroll down a bit and it talks you through locators and how to move between them:

https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/arrangement-view/

Good luck!

Re: Starting all tracks from a certain bar

Hi Dec, I guess you're using Session view? If you use Arrangement view you can start all the tracks from any point. You can also add a locator wherever you want to make it easier to move to that point.

I hope that helps.

Re: how do you improvise over a midi loop without recording the overdub?

You can use two tracks with the Audio To on both going to the Master: then play the midi loop on track 1 and improvise on track 2. Or if you want it more complicated you can set it up like this: Audio To from track 1 (midi loop) goes to track 2 Track 2 Audio In is whatever you're using to improvise,...

Re: Recording next empty clip with MIDI foot controller?

I'm pretty sure ClyphX Pro will be able to help you out, and do more e.g. set record length, quantize, play back immediately or wait 4 bars etc.

Re: Routing outputs while not connected to interface.

I use ClyphX Pro to handle the same situation - you can set up macros that give Ableton instructions, including routing. So I have one macro set up for practice (just on my Mac where everything goes to Master) and one for performance (connected to a Focusrite 18i20 with all the outs and sub outs spe...

Re: Tips for integrating songs with different return channel FX into a single live performance template set?

Good luck emiska, especially switching Live sets on the fly! The macros I use in ClyphX Pro for controlling the sends are pretty straightforward, , e.g. $SONG_STYLE_A$ = 1/SEND A = 70; 1/SEND B = 80; 2/SEND A = 30 ...etc. etc. $SONG_STYLE_B$ = 1/SEND A = 30; 1/SEND B = 40; 2/SEND A = 100 I then use ...

Re: Tips for integrating songs with different return channel FX into a single live performance template set?

Having tried dummy clips, IAC drivers and Return track chains to control FX during sets, I now use ClyphX Pro to do what you're looking to do, so I probably can't tell you something new, but might reassure you that you're on the right lines. I have macros set up in ClyphX Pro with specific Send comb...

Re: Stream deck

Looks interesting, I've done something that handles the things I need automated, but that's very bespoke and quite simple. I wouldn't fancy doing the programming to cater for every possibility though!

Re: Stream deck

I'm also really impressed Sean, I've set up a couple of different profiles for Ableton within SD: one for practising/playing around and another for when we gig again (eventually!). I've used hotkey switches to open/close things like preferences/returns/sends/plug-ins and then some midi commands to g...

Re: Stream deck

That’s really good to know that it’s so stable, and well done on sticking it to the man with 60% off, that must have made it cheaper than the std one. My std SD arrives today and it’s free as I convinced my partner she needs one to automate things she does on excel, mail etc and in return I’ll write...

Re: Stream deck

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad you like it so much. I've started playing around with Keyboard Maestro and you're right, it's great, I've automated the opening of Ableton, getting the right file, setting prefs etc., I can really see how it would work well with Stream Deck. I've looked at Touch Portal...
