Does VST3 or AU eat more CPU?
tl:dr VST3 plugins use less CPU than AU on MacBook M1 Greetings Macusers, I have always taken a haphazard approach to choosing between VST and AU so decided to experiment by putting 20 instances of a plug-in on a channel strip and seeing the effect on CPU. (I have an M1 MBP, 16Gb running Ableton 10)...

Re: Live 11 (and 10): CPU usage on macOS heavily dependent on size of the window
It could possibly be to do with the frame refresh rate. This article explains more:

I have my MBP at 15fps and I haven't noticed any real difference in how Ableton looks.
I hope that helps.

Re: Metronomic imperfection: how to make scene transitions sound more organic
You could, in arrangement view, automate the BPM on the Master track to slow down/speed up at the end of the section. You could also set the quantisation to "None" and then freestyle the transitions (you may need to reset the clock when you start of the next scene). You can use "groove" to add a bit...

Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support
I've recently bought a 13" M1 MacBook Pro. My previous laptop was a 2017 15" MacBook Pro i7 16gb RAM, running Bug Sur. I've not done detailed testing yet, but have opened up several of my previous projects and found no issues. I don't use heaps of VSTs or AUs, but I have a few ImageLine ones and Ar...

Re: Is this possible? - Macros - Position - Chain
I've not specifically tried it myself, but I think ClyphX Pro's SNAP command could help you. You'd set the macros up for the first chain and take a snapshot of that, then do the same for chains 2 and 3. You'd then assign one of your controller's buttons to each snapshot and be able to recall those p...

Re: recording with no time signature in free time
Hi Cath, and welcome! You can turn the metronome off and just record the violin, effectively without a time sig and in free time. Then tweak the position of the track when the tabla comes in. Would that work for you?

Re: Solo one track from a group
You're welcome! I struggled trying to get Ableton to mute/solo channels easily, especially to do multiple actions at the same time. But ClyphX Pro takes care of it easily: you would have three actions (mute 2/3; mute 1/3; mute 1/2) and then have one switch linked to each action. That way you can swi...

Re: Solo one track from a group
Hey csapoa, welcome to the forum. As far as I know there's no easy way to do what you want within Ableton but you can do it quite easily with ClyphX Pro, although rather than soloing one of the three tracks in the group you may find it easier to mute the other two. That way, you don't have to do any...

Re: Help with Sending Midi CCs
Hi there, and welcome, I hope this helps: 1. Double-click the cell (Scene 1, Track 1) where you want the MIDI clip 2. Open the envelopes, select MIDI ctrl, choose a MIDI CC and set the value to whatever you want it to be. 3. Create a new clip for the other cells if you want them to have a different ...

Re: colored guideline track possible?
You could do something similar by having a blank Track 1 in Arrangement view (no input/output, no instrument) and then put different colour clips on the timeline. I don't think you can change the size of the words but you can make the track as big as you want so you'd see the colours across the stag...

Re: Is ableton garbage for musicians who use physical instruments?
We use ableton as the hub of our live set up: four vox, bass, guitar, hi-hats mic, drum triggers, all going through a scarlett 18i20. Ableton does all the automation, reverbs, delays etc. and works really reliably. There is some latency (about 10ms with 128 samples) but not a problem when playing li...

Have you tried Arturia? Analog Lab V gives a limited range of pianos, Collection gives you full access or you can buy any of them individually.

Re: Channel Routing ?
Hi, on the output for the recorded track you can select "Sends only". Or muting it should do the job too.
