I just downloaded the software update for Ableton Live (8.4.1). The disk image is 914MB.

Where is the "application only" install? I don't own any of the extra content, nor do I want it.

looks like it detected the transient just fine, see the marker where the transient starts? why live decided to put the one where it does in your picture is another question. auto warp seems pretty unreliable, to the point where i rarely even try to use it.

Why is Ableton Live's transient detection so bad? Programs like ReCycle have been able to do this for over a decade, with great precision.

I've made plenty of default effects, instruments, etc., and saved them in the Live library.

However, where is the "Built-in" slicing preset?

There is a preset called "Built-in 0-Vel.adg" in the Library/Defaults/Slicing folder, but the two are not the same. "Built-in" is always the default ...

I own Ableton Live (not Suite). Every time I update the software, all the extra Packs are installed (Operator, Tension, etc.). I always download the "Program Only" version. It's not a big problem, but the Packs are beginning to install intermittently, even without a software update.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, that's how I've been doing it for years now. I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any better methods or shortcuts.

I understand that REX chopping and warping are different concepts, but they are both based on the concept of transient detection.

Even with "8-bar friendly" tracks that are locked to a MIDI-based tempo, Live still has difficulty finding the transient and the correct count.

I've been using Live since version 2, and the warping feature still does not work well. The warp markers are usually in the right vicinity, but never in the exact spot (i.e. at zero crossing on the start of the 1, 2 - kick, snare, etc.).

Why can't Ableton do this correctly? Logic does it perfectly ...

Not sure if the Activity Monitor is the meter in Ableton, or the CPU load on the task manager; if it's the first, the meter doesn't measure CPU usage but rather how much CPU time it's taking to process what it's being rendered. IE for 1 second of audio, 29% on the meter means that it took 290ms to ...

The Random Once feature will basically repeat one random phrase indefinitely. So while the the phrase itself is random, the Arpeggiator repeats that same exact phrase over and over again. Random phrase, Non-random repeats.

I love using the Random Once feature on the Arpeggiator, however I like the phrase (or sequence) to be an even length (i.e. 1 bar, 1/2 bar, etc.). To achieve this, I set up a Chord plugin that has the correct number of notes to complete a phrase.
