Re: The DubFather

I'm not an authority on dubstep so perhaps others will have some better suggestions.

Main thing that really stands out (after listening to a whole bunch of dubstep tracks this morning on the PublicRecords voting page) is that the bass isn't standing out very much. So in layman's terms crank up the ...

Iceberg EP - self released chillout under ccommons

Hi all,

Check out my latest release of chillout music called "Iceberg":

http://crystaldreamsmusic.net/music/

All done in Ableton 8 with a little help from the Dimension Pro and FM8 synth plug-ins.

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers, Joel... :)

Re: I named a song after a spaceship.

Nice one!

Did you use Ableton entirely on it's own? Or a mixture of virtual bits and pieces?

Cya :)

Re: laptop trumpet all on Ableton

Thanks for sharing. I listened to the whole album. It seems to be more towards the experimental genre so it's not the sort of thing I'd usually be listening too. However I did enjoy it all the same. I particularly like "Following" and "I Trap Totem Pulp" as they seemed to appeal my ambient side ...

Re: looking for feedback on my first serious attempt at a DJ mix

threw some comments up on soundcloud. DJ mixes in ableton shouldnt have to sound like DJ mixes IMO, so id recommend using the strengths of live like looping 4 bar sections and DJ type effects.
Also pay attention to the songs construction as they are made to be mixed, like building hooks and crashs ...

looking for feedback on my first serious attempt at a DJ mix

Hi all,

After finally getting the hang of warping (thanks to the excellent tutorials at musicsoftwaretraining.com) I thought I'd have a go at doing a basic DJ set with some tracks I was familiar with. This was the result:

Crystal Dreams "Mists of Time" - more ambient less newage???

This week I've specifically avoided a melody which is probably more along the lines of traditional ambient. Or is this more newage? Opinions requested please.

So the technical focus was on clips and basic automation. I seemed to spend most of my early midi hardware days avoiding automation because ...

Re: a slow moody old track

Sounds great!

It really creates a "moody" mood so I think you've succeeded there. Your percussion work kept me interested all the way through and the mix isn't crowded so I can hear what's going on quite nicely (which I really like to be able to do). I liked the bass too.

You've got my vote to ...

Re: Some short ambient track

Here it is called "La rosée pour lit":

Nice work there! I enjoyed it and found myself drifting away.

I think LoopStationZebra makes a good point about the arpeggio bit at the start. Although perhaps all it needs is some sort of effects processing to make it sounds a bit more ...

Crystals Dreams Ep 5 - the ambient tracks just keep coming

I'm actually quite proud of this one. Not necessarily because of the music (although I'm very happy with the way it turned out) but mainly because all of the instrument parts are done with Simpler AND with my own home made samples (the old Alpha Juno 1 is earning it's keep :D). The only imported ...

Re: more improvised ambient music - Crystal Dreams Episode #3

Loved it! I liked it so much I looked for a link in your sig for more music. When I saw there wasn't one, I checked out your profile for a link and found one. That's the first time I've ever done that. I'm getting serious Vangelis and Michel Jarre vibes.

If I might make a critique (I won't call it ...

Re: more improvised ambient music - Crystal Dreams Episode #3

I enjoyed that.
You have created a really nice atmosphere with so few and simple sounds.
Some might think it too long and repititive but I have a high tolerance for repetitive :)

Thanks for sharing.

I'm kinda glad to hear you say that it was repetitive because that ongoing hypnotic thing is ...

Another ambient/relaxation offering - Crystal Dreams Ep 4

This week I decided to give my newly acquired copy of Dimension Pro a work out. Hence a more sample based "world music" offering featuring a Koto and Bamboo Flute. However being a hopeless Operator addict I just couldn't leave out some of my fave FM style patches (which originated on my Yamaha V50 ...

Sounds great! ... even on my crappy laptop speakers and they are very crappy so you've done well with the mix. Bravo! Keep up the great work.

Cheers :)
