What Khazul said re. Redline and Toraverb, really.
Haven't tried either RP or Aether, because I can get everything I want from those two (the former more for putting a sound in a space, the latter for more of an affected/sculpted/messed-with sound (although it does subtle well, too).
But I love ...

Using iPad on the go to integrate with Live sets later
As a hardworking new dad, the only time I have that might be described as 'spare' to do music stuff is sat on trains for several hours a week.
In Live I mostly work (on hip-hop beats, mostly) with samples and loops (my own from vinyl and purchased), and BFD for non-sampled drums, with the odd soft ...

Re: Music Production Beginner Seeking Help From Experienced Pros
Having been where you are not long ago (and being not very far away now), the guy that said wait and figure out what really suits you was spot on.
At your stage I had a bonus cheque burning a hole in my pocket, and bought a load of software and some hardware cos it all looked good.
It all was, but ...

Simple things?
Most things I want are on the big list. Some to emphasise, some to add:
- smooth envelope/automation curves (drawable and waveform-selectable)
- reverse in impulse and simpler
- 'slice to separate channels' from impulse and drum rack instruments - so you can programme or play in a rhythm/beat ...

LIve crashes on scanning/opening certain VSTs
Hi, have emailed Ableton support a couple of weeks ago but got no answer, so thought I'd try here. The problem is that Live crashes when I try to open and/or scan some of my favourite VST plugins - FXpansion BFD v2 and both GForce's Virtual Synth Machine and M-Tron Pro. All work in their standalone ...

This makes me sad
I read this, and compose my reply, while going through a stack of Mo Wax 12"s, old hip hop and random other vinyl bits and pieces I picked up earlier this week.
The thought of people digitising and getting rid of their records makes me sad. It is not something I could do myself.
If the tools ...

Thanks for the souncard/audio interface tips
Many thanks for the replies so far.
Anyone used this:
M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

Seems to have all the inputs I'll ever need (and maybe more) but not that ultra-cheap and online reviews aren't exactly unequivocal, so not sure about ...

USB soundcard/audio interface
This has been asked before, I'm sure, but I'm (a) new here; and (b) too lazy to trawl through the whole forum. Sorry. Anyway...
I was very fond of my old emagic A62m USB soundcard. But I've upgraded my laptop for Live-ing purposes and it won't work with Vista. I don't want to mess around ...
