Re: MIDI looping.
It sounds like you're still playing the song from arrangement view, which will only ever play a loop for however many bars you extended it to in that track. Once you set the clip to loop, you need to drag the edge of it to extend it to be multiple bars in arrangement view. However, if you want it to...

Re: Music theory help needed. Scales.
...if I am writing in C Major will it only work well if I only use the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B and no others? That's the idea of scales at a very basic level. However, a song that only has notes in one key may become boring (depending on the type of music you're making). Often times people write ...

Re: Slice to Midi Loop Problems
Slicing doesn't take account of warping settings Wait, that makes no sense. You can't slice without warp on, yet it then ignores the warping? To tack on a question, how would I slice a pitched version of my clip? I tried adjusting transpose, but the end result was the normal pitch. Do I have to cop...

Re: Possible to have Live not record short accidental notes?
I think you'd just be better off practicing whatever you keep screwing up. Always works for me. Why would I practice something I'm just recording in to program the synth line, when I can just edit it to make it right? Although MisterMcGillicuddy wasn't answering your direct question, I think he was...

Re: How do i "fetch" the loop?
You can also CTRL+Click in the bar where the loop marks show to set the left loop marker, and Ctrl+Shift+Click to set the right loop marker. I end up using this all the time!

Re: route midi to multiple tracks
First, make sure the I/O for tracks is showing. Assuming you have one MIDI track with all the notes and the arpeggiator, go into each other MIDI track that you want to control, and assign the "MIDI From" dropdown to the first track. Make sure "Post FX" is selected in the second d...

Re: How to use Yamaha P85 as MIDI controller
i can't figure out how to get Live 8 to pick this up. Check the preferences, under the MIDI tab. Make sure the "Track" switch is turned to "On" for the fast track MIDI In port. Edit: If you want to use it to do automation, also enable the "Remote" column for the same p...

You don't have it plugged into a USB hub, do you? Try plugging it into the computer directly.

You'll have to do this for each drive or partition, if you happen to have several.

Re: How to both record AND quantize with a groove?
For anyone who's interested, I have been learning to live with this more. It helped me to think of groove as an effect that is applied right as Live plays the notes, not something that you can see in your piano roll notes. Thinking of it this way, it makes sense to always quantize your playing to be...

Brilliant! I have applied other settings to multiple clips at once, but did not realize you could warp this way as well. Thank you both for the info!

How to warp exported tracks (stems) all at once?
I just read through Chris Cowie's great post on the less-is-more technique of warping, and it proved very helpful. However, I am still having trouble when trying to make mixes of songs for which I have the stems (separated track output from another program). In this case, I have several audio files ...

Re: PDJing: How to play 2 clips in Ableton at the same time?
You could MIDI-map the clips you want to launch, and then record their launching into a dummy clip using a loopback MIDI device--BUT this is overkill and confusing. Placing them in a row and launching the scene seems to be what you need.
