Re: Best Video Export Format for DVD?

The video will be encoded to MPEG2 for recording on the DVD. So you want to minimize loss of quality prior to that. A good option is to use one of the lossless codecs for export, and then let iDVD handle the conversion to MPEG2. Animation and PhotoJPEG codecs are both essentially lossless at 100% qu...

Re: Launchpad keeps sending out a signal on Ch1 CC16

Yep, you're right. There should be nothing coming from the Launchpad on Ch 1 CC 16. The top row buttons are CCs, but they go from 104 to 111. Have you tried looking at the output using something like MIDI-OX? Either it is defective (not unheard of) or there is something strange with your MIDI routing.

Re: I split up with my missus

Oh, Max/MSP for sure. And if you really want a change, a "brain holiday", buy yourself a copy of Renoise. What's the internet for, if not for broadcasting your personal life to complete strangers? 3 years - and we share a house.... life's a bitch. I'm being psychologically waterboarded every day and...

Re: I'm a bit confused: Ableton and Jitter?

I spent some time with the developers of Max4Live, and they said that all the Jitter objects will be available. This means you can have a Jitter window in the UI interface area of a Max4Live patch, and you can also have Jitter create standalone windows, the way it does in Max. So basically, all of J...

Re: YAMAHA is buying ABLETON

YAMAHA is in deep talks into buying ABLETON. Now, you will react by saying "show me proof, news articles, etc." That's fine, I have a concrete resource on this,so, it's just gonna be a WAIT AND SEE for now. But, if it does happen, and the ink is dry, just remember this day i announced this to you. go...

Re: bitwig - anyone know the ins and outs

The Bitwig guys won some kind of startup contest funded by the government (not sure if federal or local), and decided to do their own thing. My understanding is that they're still very much friends with Ableton. And Ableton has plenty of other coders. Personally I'm impressed with how quickly they'v...

Re: PD vs Max/MSP/Jitter for visuals?

Well, PD is free, so the question is whether or not you want to buy Max/MSP/Jitter, isn't it? PD, as a programming language, is more developed than Max: data structures stand out as a particular difference. However, as a development environment, Max 5 is definitely smoother and easier - it feels a l...

Re: kaoss pad midi control of filters etc

I'm trying to use an old kaoss pad as a midi controller for audio filters etc in Live 8. However I don't know what i'm doing wrong but both the X and Y values of the pad - seem to match/change together. In midi mapping - both say pitchbend and I dont know of a way to change this to a specific CC nu...

Re: So, how are YOU using your portable recorder?

I attached some mini binaural mikes to my fingertips (from here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category/110/mics), going into an Edirol R09 recorder and monitoring it with some in-ear earphones. Gives all sorts of weird spatial effects when you point the mikes away, and bring them c...

Ah, I see, thanks. I only see that with drum racks, instrument racks or effect racks. I haven't seen it yet with an instrument preset. Is this normal?

Re: Fourth beta of upcoming bugfix update: Live 8.0.4b4!

not working here at all. when you open the info window and hover over a modern factory preset, do you see the descriptive text? if not then you need to rebuild your library - which takes a while. You don't need to do the 'reinstall packs' part of it though. For some reason when in installed 8.03 my...

Re: how to setup microkontrol as natively supported controller?

I have my mK working fine with drum racks using AM's template, but Ableton's own control surface reference shows the drum pads on the mK as controlling bank switching between groups of parameters. This sounds useful, but I can't get it to work. Ideally, I'd have one scene on the mK setup to work wit...

Try this: ; OpenOffice.org *,*,soffice.bin,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9 well, it works for Reaktor, but not for OpenOffice apps. not a huge deal, i spend most of my time in Live and Reaktor anyway! wow, so many little fixes for the annoying niggles that you think you just have to live with. this one and the k...
