In fact I was playing around with my Machinedrum synth and set it to send clock on and send ctrl on, I was able to control Live with transport buttons on the Machinedrum.
I think simply my drummer needs to send ctrl data to start and stop, along with the midi clock. This shouldn't be a problem ...

Can't play or stop in ext mode
I simply want to receive MIDI clock from my collaborator who is playing MIDI drums and def sending clock. That didn't work out today so I returned home and tested out sending clock to Live 5.03, with sync set to on for the proper MIDI port and the ext button switched on. I can receive the tempo fine ...

MIDI tracks quantizing to 16th notes
When I create MIDI loops on the fly in Live 5, on instant playback they automatically quantize as 16 notes. My quantize at the top of the interface is set to 1 bar. How can I have MIDI notes not quantize at all like recorded audio?

Thanks, yes alt then arrow key does the trick. I am actually already using Bome's MIDI translator ( http://www.bome.com )
What I'm actually trying to do is use my MIDI foot controller to move up and down the tracks (among other things), and if the focus wasn't on the session area, I was screwed. So ...

assigning MIDI or keystroke to 'select track area'
For lack of a better way to put it, I'm trying to assign a MIDI note or keystroke (either one will work) to focus on the session area. I believe I should be able to do it and here's why. If the focus is on another area, such as the effects area, which would be outlined, when I click on the 'track ...

Useful MIDI foot control?
Using a typical sustain type foot switch sends a down signal and then an up signal. How am I to use that for tap tempo in Live when it sends a tap on the down AND the up stroke?

As that is an expression pedal, it's not a good choice to send a quick trigger signal. A keyboard sustain pedal would work better and is what I use, but it's tricky because it sends two signals, one down and one when you release. I haven't had 100% success with it. Perhaps a better application would ...

would a pedal for my oxygen 8 send a midi signal that i could use to trigger loop record? thanks!
Most likely. Does it have a footswitch or footcontrol input? Then you just midi assign that to the record button on an armed track (it appears as a play button at the bottom of every track above the ...
