Re: Ableton's metronome is just broken.

It’s probably easier to just make some reference rhythm audio clips. It’ll give you a much clearer idea of where emphasis should be than trying to deal with the metronome. Plus feel a lot more natural. Of course, you’d still have to at least have the time signature and tempo thing sorted out... whic...

Re: Compressing Drums. Why Do It?

In the land of compression, peaks are relative. Since you can always turn up or down the overall result, if the ringing out / tail is louder, the overall perceived loudness of the drumming might be increased. Then your peaks in contrast to the other content is not as much of a difference ratio-wise....

Re: HotCue in a Dj Set

This has me thinking. I’ve been using Live since before groups existed. Now that groups exist, djing can be much easier. You can save a song as an entire channel. And then just load that channel into a Group. The group would act as a mixer channel deck so you’d have consistent mapping to channel par...

Re: Problem with Warping a track for a Dj Set

I’d start by warping just a one bar loop and adjusting the markers while it loops, and while trying to match it to a metronome, until it sounds tight. That one bar you loop can be any part of the track, the less busy the better, as long as it has the main beat. When you have developed a good sense v...

Re: Ableton Drumrack in stand alone mode

Open a new blank project. Name it Scratch or Sketch or something. And then in the Live browser go to the project you’re working on and find the channel that has that drum rack. Drag that drum rack into your new project. Play and record the bit. Save that. Then go back into your original project and ...

Re: MIDI SUSTAIN PEDAL

Each instrument channel has midi ‘input’ options.

You can set a channel to Only listen to one piece of hardware.

Alternatively, you can set it to listen to Only one midi channel. So if your pads are set to midi ch 10, and your sustain pedal is on 1, the channel with the pads won’t react to Sustain

Re: Delay on just a couple of notes in a MIDI clip?

Is using a send/return not an option? Or adding an Effect Rack that does something similar, switching between chains?

Re: iPad best music apps thread!

The previous video I shared was with AUM and Thumbjam, and was a quite innovative live performance. This next one, might be a bit over baked for my taste and also suffers a bit from YouTube compression But, it really showcases the large variety of apps currently available and the iPad’s ability to s...

Re: iPad best music apps thread!

Necrobump. ThumbJam is wildly underrated. Though it doesn’t have audio unit support, it ‘almost’ does when you side dock it. Quite an expressive performance with ThumbJam, AUM, and a number of other apps being used within AUM. https://discchord.com/appnews/2020/08/24/ajp-thumbjam-multi-channel-live-...

Re: Recording next empty clip with MIDI foot controller?

Are you doing more than just the recording on a channel? Playing clips in session view simultaneously? If not, you can use Scene triggering (mapping to the ‘trigger highlighted scene’ button). There is a Preference setting where you can make Scene automatically jump to the next scene down after bein...

Re: Apple silicon

I guess since this is called Apple Silicon, I can pretend this is the new ‘iPad music’ my thread. And at least use it as a means to explore the push / pull with the whole Apple platform, approach. Arm and SoC comes down to Apple’s direction being to approach computing as a whole from the user, throu...

Re: Apple silicon

Well. I don’t want to hijack this and go from ‘Live on different kinds of processors’ to ‘making music on iPads’ so I’ll keep this short. If you consider doing music on iPads, there are still some sticklers. The lifespan of an iPad is respectable but by no means perfect... in fact, it is easier than...

Re: Apple silicon

I’d have to admit that another limiting factor is old devices vs new devices, when it comes to releasing things in the App Store and what those devices can handle. I know that they have a spot for ‘recommended for use on these devices’, but a lot of naive people attempt to use the apps anyway, and t...

Re: Apple silicon

these chip sets you're so in awe of aren't even on the latest fabs, it's 16nm, these are old fab houses that were already set to close down YEARS before the next one was ever planned. read up. this isn't high tech, it's just consumer grade stuff The A13 is 7nm, the A14 will be 5nm coming in October...
