Re: Keyboarding techniques?

There are a lot of different music styles. Might blog to pick one or two by artists you feel represent the direction you’re exploring and see if you can mimic their techniques, right down to copying exactly. In the process of attempting to do that you’ll a) come across accidents that end up not bein...

Re: Instrument Rack's specific processing

When you drag things, as you’re dragging the pointer over rack slots they can each highlight individually. Release the mouse clicker when the effect is dragged over the slot that is hosting your instrument and while it is highlighted. Alternatively, you can double click a slot to expand it and see w...

Re: How long have you been using ableton live? :D

Learned about it from bt (Brian Transeau) back in the day. I remember when they first added midi clips. So probably just a little before then. Was a good time to pick it up, as it was less overwhelming when I was able to focus on just learning about warping and audio. I can’t for certain recall what...

Re: Midi records 60 ms delayed

Not sure what you mean by ‘closed all fx’. They’re either in the set end causing latency, or you remove them from the set and do not get the extra latency. Just hiding or turning them ‘off’ won’t reduce it.

Re: MPK249 multiknob assignation to each track

I think something that initially confused me was your use of the word ‘clip’ for mapping vs ‘track’. If you map things to a clip, you are pretty limited. Mapping to parameters within a track is pretty much the bigger, more common practice. This in itself does get a bit complicated though. When it co...

Re: MPK249 multiknob assignation to each track

You might have to go a little more in detail on what you mean. For clips, that’s dependent on Channels. For Instruments, that can be dependent on a number of things. The tricky part of triggering clips with Sampler though is that you’d need to make a midi clip that still triggers the device, but you...

Re: MPK249 multiknob assignation to each clip

When it comes to clips, you midi assign parameters of the clips for general overall application. This means if you assign Pitch, it applies to controlling Pitch for ‘any selected clip’. If you have one clip selected, or several clips selected, your control will change the Pitch parameter on those. I...

Re: Sampler: How do you control Sample Start point?

There are a few ways.

1. Use the midi routing tab within Sampler.

2. Use an Envelope or if you’re desperate a super long Square LFO. Then map the Envelope or LFO ‘amount’.

Re: Mute/Solo/Freeze/Flatten not working on external MIDI tracks

Mute works the same conceptually in this case as when you might use mute on an actual mixer. A guitarist might still be playing and his reverb might still be processing even while you have the channel muted, so when you unmute, you abruptly get whatever might still be occurring on that channel. It d...

Re: Songs manually sliced in simpler - Warping not working.

It is probably warped before you put the clip into Simpler. When it works, it’s just because it was properly, or reasonably close to bpm, warped before you did anything in Simpler. All you’d be doing is changing trigger points while warp is off. Then turning it back on with the already existing warp...

Re: No Sound from ANY Midi

I will give two examples of my experiences with this. I guess you’d have to cancel one out or the other. In the midi department, I have had a keyboard that would choke occasionally and stop transmitting anything. I think it usually happened when I touched the pitchbend. I don’t know what was going o...

Re: Mute/Solo/Freeze/Flatten not working on external MIDI tracks

I’m curious as to how you were getting sound from the hardware before you started using ‘Audio From’ in the external instrument device. If you mute or solo, do the buttons at least change color? Do all the other channels and meters in Live animate the way you’d expect them to when you press those bu...

Re: Mute/Solo/Freeze/Flatten not working on external MIDI tracks

Are you sending midi out from the midi Channel or are you using ‘External Instrument’ as the means for sending midi to and receiving audio from the hardware?

Re: Unlink Duplicated MIDI Tracks?

Try filtering the midi receives on each channel with routing options for each channel. Each channel should only need to receive from midi channel 1, and then 2, and then 3 etc. This could work if you’re using midi learn within a vst. But if you did midi Mapping in Live, then that won’t ‘fix’ it. You...

Re: External keyboard controller is controlling Live but not mapped

In midi preferences there are two sections. The lower section turns your keyboard input and output on or off for basic functions like keyboarding and manual mapping. The upper section “Control Surfaces” turns on automatic mapping of controls for your keyboard if your keyboard model is selected. If y...
