Re: Patch Change Events on Live
hi - old thread, new question. When patch changing external hardware synths and FX units, I have several clips back to back in arrangement view to change back and forth between various patches, Can I select a series of clips and freeze, consolidate or flatten them into one clip that retains the different patch changes? It would be nice to have a single 'unified' clip to move around easier

If I understand you correct that should not be a problem.
You can freeze each clip \ patch combination, flatten those and combine them as audio clips any way you want them.
Then consolidate, or record them to a new clip by sending your clip outputs to a new track.

here's side effect of my remapping aftertouch into cc from this thread http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?t=127873Clearscreen wrote:lives plugins don't accept program changes, but you can build racks of them and switch chains on the fly. see section 16.5 (page 211) of the manual. part 16.5.4 was what i was thinking of specifically, but the whole section shows you different ways this could be done with racks.
you can also easily do the same with program change and remap it into note or cc and than map it for chain change as described. i just tried both combinations and were able to map my program change knob to "send a". normally i have 8 state program change on my korg zero and can't map it into ableton - now i have 8 steps of "send a" from 0 to 100%.
i rerouted it via midiConverter3 and iac bus and changed into note and then for cc. both works fine for mapping. cc required additional changing of "map mode" into "clip/stretch" and lowering "high input" from 127 to 7.
here's example routing and configuration of midiConverter:

What's that Midiconverter3 software? A VST? I couldn't; find it when I googled it.

OK I'll try to post some images here. I import midi and audio into arrangement view to create a 60 song master set with a 10 second pause between each one, and launch each song live using locators:

Here's a close-up of one song. Note the 'M-Vocoder' track, which changes the patches on my external Digitech harmonizer (doubler, octaver, harmonies at different times during the song:

As long as I keep the individual clips as shown, the patches change preoperly, but if I import it to session view, it makes an ugly stack of clips. I tried consolidating the track (see the two highlit tracks below, but the consolidated track retains only the first patch change:

I don't mind doing my sets in arrangement view, but it would be nice to have a consolidated group of patch changes that can be moved around in session view as one clip

Re: Patch Change Events on Live
really interested in this as i want the pattern program change from my electribe to call the scenes in live, tried with midipipe and midiconvert3 and none of them seem to output correct data for live to change scene, it either sees a pitchbend (unaltered)(which is RIDICULOUS, why in the name of dog cant live receive the most basic midi command (and sysex) i mean it would be totally natural fro songs on external HW to be mapped to scenes in a live session isnt it?)) or it sees teh cc 32(bank select msb) and always at the same value of 0
my plan was to convert PC to notes on 2 different channel (only 128 notes) and use that to navigate in the set from the electribe because the reverse won't work as the clip that has the PC will only send it on the 1 and the tribe will wait a full cycle to change pattern which is not good (i could make a lonely PC track and call that 1 bar before or so (thinking out loud now, that could work, if all clips are 8 bars and the tribe is 8 bars too, if i call a full scene with a quantize of 8 but trigger that 1 bar PC clip at the same without quantize it will tell the tribe the change at most 1 bar after i choose the pattern and at the end of the 8th bar it will change at the same time as live scene
another issue i will be having once that part work is pattern bank c and d that uses a bank change via the bank select msb (cc 32)
