Workarounds for no Program Changes?
Live 6.0.3 Win XP sp2, P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB, UXGA video, RME Multiface (1), Nord Lead 3, Korg X5D, TR-Rack, ER-1, Roland Juno 106, JV-2080, Elektron Machinedrum-UW, SidStation, SPL Charisma, Soundtracs CP6800 (40/12/24), Genelec 1030A, Furutech TP80, etc.
In my judgment a VSTI is an MIDI-instrument like all others, so you have to do program changes in the clips. Mapping names is not a feature within the Clip MIDI Editor.
On the other hand, in Live 6 you can use Instrument Racks, those are very powerfull!

So, let's say a clip is already playing and I want to record a new clip with a different sound . I must record it in a new track so it can have a different sound (vsti program), right?
Also as far as I have understood, if I want to be able to choose programs by name (this is the only way I can recognize them!) I have to change from inside the vsti and not from the clip program change because there I can't see any names but just numbers...

i don't know
Hmmm, i'm not a heavy VSTi user so maybe someone has an answer?

Finally, I have created 15 different midi tracks. In the first five of them I have loaded B4 , in the five next Pro 53, and in the last five Mtron.jendask wrote:So, let's say a clip is already playing and I want to record a new clip with a different sound . These tracks are not armed all the time because I have understood that this would be too heavy for my CPU (I have a Celeron 2,6, 512 RAM).
Also the devices(B4, Pro 53, Mtron) are not activated until I need to activate to record or playback. Does this also affect the CPU load?
could be
Have you tried it yet?jendask wrote:Finally, I have created 15 different midi tracks. If an instrument is not used it should / could have zero CPU load, but trying it is the only way to know if this is true for your plug-ins.
BTW. 512 MB is not very much for an audio computer.

ive been playing with using chains and ranges to get around not being able to do program changes. its funny, because i thought the point of it was that it would disable everything in a chain if if wasn't selected for a range.
but i know that pretty much everything in the chain is actually active and using my cpu. so does anyone know why this is and is there another alternative?

so does anyone know why the chains and rack method is using up so much cpu? it definitely isn't turning of all the devices when the chain isn't selected.
