Launching Relative Scenes via MIDI

I'm in the middle of setting up Live to handle my live keyboard rig plus my band's click track and loops. I have six tracks for loops that may or may not contain a clip in a given scene, plus other tracks for my keyboard sounds which aren't important here.

Each scene I have corresponds to a part of ...

Playing back a MIDI sequence by step

I'm trying to integrate a Guitar Rig controller into my setup, and I'm looking to map a variety of things to the buttons on the guitar at different times. Chords are easy, but I have another idea and I'm trying to see if it's possible. I know how to do it in Cubase with the Arpache SX plugin.

What ...

Re: Guitar Rig 4 strangeness with Live

Yes, you can still do it. I'm responding for Ableton 8, but it will work in 7 as well.

The workaround is annoying, but it also shows you a standard way of working with the MFX plugin for GR4 in Live.

Set up a new live set. Put your GR4 plugin (must be MFX!) on an audio track. Make a new MIDI ...

Re: Changing instrument presets and its routing on stage

Section 8.3.2 in the manual describes it exactly. This isn't part of an External Instrument, it's part of a clip. Live won't know about the names of specific programs on your synth; you'll be sending it a MIDI program change (and, if necessary, bank change).

Re: Changing instrument presets and its routing on stage

Live can, of course, route program changes to other VSTs that do respond to program changes.

As Angstrom says, it sounds like you didn't actually do anything to have Live remember the currently selected program in your synth. Remember that on some outboard gear, program changes aren't necessarily ...

Re: Send midi out control with APC 40 to an external Synth

If you do the above, make sure that your APC is deselected in the Control Surface dropdown boxes or it will be overridden as a controller.

Also, keep in mind that each vertical row of buttons is its own channel (1 - 8 ).

There is also software out there, Bomes. I believe bomes costs money too ...

Re: MidiFilter

@ShelLuser: It filters out the MIDI data that gets sent to a MIDI or Instrument track, pre-record (i.e. it will record filtered data, not do the filtering on playback). Basically, you can do things like filter out all CCs but 1, 11, and 64 to make sure that controller movement on your hardware doesn ...

Re: Cost of upgrading Live 8 to Suite 8

Thanks! I wonder what the reason is for not having that available up front.

For the record, I've got a version of Live LE that was bundled with some M-Audio hardware, and it's a difference of $9 worse (download) or $11 better (boxed) for me to upgrade from Live 8 and then upgrade again later to the ...

Cost of upgrading Live 8 to Suite 8

I'm going to purchase Live and would like to get the Suite. However, it's more money than I have right now. I can afford to get Live 8 right now and would be able to upgrade to the Suite in a couple months. Ableton's site doesn't show the upgrade prices to the suite, except for products you already ...

Re: Multitimbral instruments in Live

That's what I figured, reading through the manual, but I figured I'd ask. Another way I can think of is to use an external plugin that rechannelizes data. This would be the ideal way since I'm a keyboard player wanting to change my MIDI routing in some flexible way for each song. If I come up with a ...

Re: Multitimbral instruments in Live

Is there an easy way to route MIDI data from one track on one MIDI channel into a multitimbral instrument on multiple specific channels (i.e. not all 16, but say 1-4 and 6?)

Re: Changing instrument presets and its routing on stage

I'm also looking into using Live as the host for my keyboard rig. I have a fairly particular way I'd like to be able to work with things to meet my needs, and wanted to check that I'll be able to get pretty close to what I want to accomplish. I currently use Cantabile as a host for performance but ...
