I use a novation Nio 2|4 for exactly the purpose you require.

I send the click track to channels 3&4 and everything else to channels 1&2.

Channels 3&4 go to the drummer, via the number 2 headphone output on the soundcard.

Nobody, except the drummer hears the click track.

I have a copy of Live 7 on a windows 7 machine, and a Nio 2|4 that is doing exacttly the same thing - crashing Ableton and my entire Win 7 platform. The machine will not even reboot properly afterwards unless the Nio 2|4 and all other USB devices are ...

this is my biggets gripe with live, having to wait between tracks, while the next song loads! it makes is kinda hard (almost impossible) to play a really smooth, continuous set.

I've tried to reduce this by merging songs (2 or more) toether where possible, but I end up with really large files ...

If I were you I would lay out the entire set in scenes and trigger each one manually when you want to change. Then you can have each scene have its own automation and settings depending on where you are in the set. You could even add dummy clips and route live sound into them for automating effects ...

Is there a way to assign control(s) on the APC40 to load news songs/tracks into Ableton. It's frusatrating to have to use the PC keyboard/mouse each time via the "file" menu....

I have the same issue with my microkorg. I normally use an M-audio keystation, which worlks just fine as a midi controller. Now I'm trying to hook up the midi from my microkorg to contorl midi in ableton, and it does not seem possible. Ableton simple cannot see that the microkorg is a connected midi ...
