When I disable the “exclusive arm” option, then only one track is rec enabled at any one time. I want multiple tracks rec enabled because ...

I have 2 midi tracks. One has a plug-in on it, let’s say a synth. The 2nd one has nothing on it.
When I drag a midi instrument onto track 2, the “rec” button automatically turns red, but the one on midi track 1 is disabled.

Just downloaded the 30 day free trial for AL 12, but it simply isn't opening. Seemed to install ok, but when I click on the icon (both in my applications folder, and the one I dragged down to the dock) it just doesn't open (?)
I'm on a 2015 MBP running Big Sur 11.7.10

Would the scenario (no pun intended) you've suggested not mean that the shorter clips would end, and then wait until the longest clip ended until the next scene commenced?
