Re: The move from Live 11 to 12

A few prior entries in this thread suggest caution about deleting Live 11 until they know Live 12 will accept their files. Why is that? Isn't it guaranteed that Live 12 will remember ALL settings from Live 11 AND recognize all files? So is there any real reason why I need to keep Live 11 since I ...

Is there a way to know the INTENDED instrument in a drum midi file?

something that's been bugging me for a while is when I buy pre-programmed drum midi files from a company like Groove Monkey for example, sometimes when I load one of the drum midi files into an Ableton drum kit, some notes (each note of a midi drum file always represents a different instrument of a ...

Re: Splitting multiple tracks in arrangement view

Thanks for explaining this; never knew how to split many at once but just tried it successfully. You'll find if you have many tracks (I have 24 in the song I am now mixing), you'll need to make them all quite small. Lassoo all tracks starting at the top right then going down to lassoo all track ...

That's good to know about the frequency readout. How might frequency readings effect recording or mixing strategies?

Re: Is there a way to see your mix while you are mixing?

Thank you for your reply dsu. I greatly appreciate it and yes, of course I was aware of the green VU meter in the Master channel which is essential to keep an eye on (if I can keep that green light to even three quarters up, if the mix sounds good I'm more likely to have a dynamic mix, and more ...

Is there a way to see your mix while you are mixing?

I may be doing this wrong, but to see a visual representation of my mix in Ableton while doing mixing I end up having to export my mix to an audio file and then open it in some third party software like Audacity. But is there a way to capture for any moment in time what my mix is going to look like ...

How does one find out name of a midi instrument only named as a keyboard note?

When importing pre-sequenced drumming midi tracks controlling numerous drum instruments from an Ableton drum kit that I select, sometimes in the Pad Overview you'll see that not all your drum parts are played in a particular octave range. When they are in that range, the names of those instruments ...

Re: Splitting drum midi tracks into seperate channels?

I agree with those saying you should copy the midi drum kit track to other midi tracks (and when you do, don't forget like I once did that those notes won't sound until you've also added the same kit to those tracks - midi notes are only triggers of synths, so no sound without the synth you are ...

Re: select all clips in a track?

Another problem with the Select Track Content is that it opens up three dots to the left of the track but also one somewhere in the middle which you can grab to lower your automation up and down. BUT because there is a wavefile right there, it's almost impossible to actually see that middle dot that ...

Re: Some midi notes are not sounding

I just had a similar problem which is how I landed here in this discussion. I played a long bass sequence on an external midi controller but some notes in my sequence were not heard upon playback even though I could see the notes in Ableton. The answer that someone else gave above that some synths ...

Re: File Browser sample preview volume control?

I was just struggling with not hearing the sample previews. Be aware, as I just discovered, that these PREVIEWS of SAMPLES have a volume control. It is the same one (for those who did not understand a prior poster above referring to it as a "blue ring,") as used for the volume of your metronome. Go ...

SIMPLE WAY TO PAN DIFERENT MIDI SOUNDS FROM ONE CLIP

I've noticed there is no way to pan the individual instruments or sounds from a midi clip so that several go to the stereo left, others to the right. I wanted to do this with drums, which are typically panned with other instruments to allow guitar lead or vocal in the middle. I found an easy way to ...

Re: Any way to reverse a MIDI clip?

yes, you are right. highlight the notes you want reversed, then to the left in the Notes column hit Rev for reverse, or Inv for inverse or Legato for Legato or Dupl Region to copy that section to a later one
