hello,

I have a rewire problem that seems to have followed me from my G4 with pro tools 6.4.1 to my G5 with pro tools 7.4.2. The only constant seems to be Ableton 7.0.16.

The symptoms are this:

1. Pro tools often crashes when I open a live set from live's file menu. Opening the same live set from ...

hmmm, you seem to have been unlucky with conflicts. however, you should be able to get reasonable performance with that cpu, so before junking the whole thing, i would try:

-a different video card
-add an extra gig of RAM

some things just aren't meant to be, though, and a new system might be all ...

you'd probably need a faster processor to achieve lower-latency, though a faster processor would not guarantee this.

are any of you guys using usb interfaces? i've found the latest versions of live to be virtually unusable with my apogee mini-me, but when using my presonus firepod everything's very nippy

Indeed, automatic numbering is turned off as soon as you enter a custom name. If you like to still have your tracks automatically numbered when you rename them, add a "# " before the name, and it will behave as before. The little addition is that you can use "## " for a two digits auto ...

we must have this. it's so annoying trying to get the tempos to whole number values, even when holding down control. i'm sorry, but 150.14bpm just won't do!

i didn't experience the latency problem last night, which makes me think it's definitely related to the GTR waves plugin, in my case at least.

for the people still having problems, does it occur even when there are no vsts running?

i'm sure there was a time when you could map a single midi note to more that one command. is it not possible anymore?

secondly, i want to setup button control of faders. i.e. one key sets a fader at -20db, another sets it at -17db, another at -10db and so on. however, it seems like only one key and ...

i noticed it yesterday, the first time live had been used for an extended period of time. my girlfriend was recording vocals when i was at the shops and called to say there'd been a burst of noise after which there was 1/2-second latency. i thought it was ...

So, at present I am using the last revision of the G4 PowerBooks - it's the 12" model with 1.25ghz CPU and 1.5gb ram. Needless to say, it's a little underpowered for some of the more intenstive tasks that Live is capable of.

The question is, which machine do I upgrade to? The two in question are ...
