Rips directly to Quicktime...

For Pc I don't know of a free one, but must exist. Although I'm not sure it will encode directly into QT.

Re: simple step filter vst???

Easiest I know is the

Audio Damage BigSeq

Another one, quite complete
Sonicbytes Gat'R
http://www.sonicbytes.com/gatr/gatr.htm

And
Xoxos series

This last is very interesting... but not sure it works in Live.

Hotplugin FW 400 peripherals in any Computer is not a good idea by default...

Got friends that fried their external HD like this and what's worse, burnt their laptop's FW port.

Deep pain.

Re: Text to Speech to Musical Vocals..

Did you try with a vocoder?

You place a vocoder vst on a track and you route a synth into it as Carrier and a voice as Modulator, that way you can have nice hybrid voices, kinda funky/galactic... :)

There is also this soft .. Vocaloid, from Yamaha, where you can "compose" singing voices. I don't ...

Re: Pitch-up samples but keeping length, how-to ?

the pitch goes up as wanted, but the sample length shortens!

+1 octave = 2x speed

Sound physics :D .

But there are softwares that analyze the wave trying to recreate its behaviour...

Live is quite good stretching, but you may also want to try some of these:

Re: Turnin' on the Screw

Maybe not really the exact solution but...

Sounds like a moog + an amp + a good EQ.

So in VST I'd set a triangular wave or a triangular+square waves on my moog (or any synth) plugin, with amplitude release 0 and no envelope filter.

and the route it to an amp plugin like Guitar rig or Amplitube ...

Yo!

I've got the same problem last night... not really a gate problem, is like the beat repeat was catching the sound late and then stopping all sound through it.

Firewire midi controller is quite a concept. I don't thik it would solve your problem though.

Did you check your Driver Error Compensation in the preferences?

Options > Preferences > Audio > Driver Error Compensation : set it so your Overall latency gets as close as possible to 0.

Also try ...

agreed. i think it may be easier to make on a moog-ish/tb-303ish plugin or synth. operator doesn't have the ease of envelope control you need for a sound like that, imho. it's a pretty basic sound, though - no voodoo required.
