Got this figured out. The default MIDI channel for the keys is 1, but the default MIDI channel for the pads is 10. So, selecting "MIDI from" Channel 1 on my sampler track fixed this.

my guess would be that you have the nn-xt and the thor routed into the same channels on reason's mixer. i recently went through the whole process of figuring out reason->live rewiring. check the backside of reasons mixer and make sure thor is going into channels 1/2 and nn-xt into channels 3/4, then ...
